My first entry on the new site. I said I was going to talk about guitars and music, so here goes!
Yes, I am back to playing guitar! Though there is nowhere to actually do it besides home and Instagram, that is ok because I am still in a state of recuperation. The surgeries on my neck and both my hands were successful. Now I am dealing with what comes with age. Arthritis. Stiffness. Having been away for so long means that I have a lot of endurance to catch up on. I recently finished a recording project from home that somebody asked me to play on, and I could not believe how inconsistent I have become. I got it done and was happy with the results, but I was grateful that it was on MY time and not in a recording studio. It was very tedious!
In the last year I have fallen in love with a new guitar: Fenders Duo Sonic. It's one of their recent models, a kind of tribute to the student model guitars they released in the late 50's and early 60's. The shorter 24 inch scale is so much more comfortable to play for my hands, and I have upgraded the electronics and pickups as well so it does what I need it to. I have begun to build another one with a few more pickup options, just because if one is good, two is even better! I have grown tired of my usual Strat and Teles that I have used for years and years, and this guitar is different enough that I feel I can put my own unique stamp and vibe into it.
